چکیده

Agronomic market development information provided by: Dr. Adrian Johnston Northern Great Plains Region Director Potash & Phosphate Institute (PPI)/ Potash & Phosphate Institute of Canada (PPIC) 12-425 Pinehouse Drive Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada S7K 5K2 Phone: (306) 956-0619 E-mail: [email protected] THE ATMOSPHERIC CONCENTRATIONS of nitrous oxide (N 2 O), carbon dioxide (CO 2 ), and methane (CH 4 ) have been found to be increasing. There is concern about this because all three gases absorb long-wave radiation, thereby increasing the amount of heat trapped in the earth’s atmosphere. In addition, N 2 O is involved in the destruction of stratospheric ozone, which shields the earth from biologically harmful ultra-violet radiation.

The contribution of manure and fertilizer nitrogen to atmospheric nitrous oxide since 1860

Atmospheric nitrous oxide concentrations have been increasing since the industrial revolution and currently account for 6% of total anthropogenic radiative forcing. Microbial production in soils is the dominant nitrous oxide source; this has increased with increasing use of nitrogen fertilizers. However, fertilizer use alone cannot account for the historical trends of atmospheric concentrations...

The Impact of Crop Price on Nitrous Oxide Emissions: A Dynamic Programming Approach

The use of N fertilizer in agriculture is a major source of Nitrous Oxide, an important greenhouse gases. Market-based instruments, such as incentives or taxes, may help reduce Nitrous Oxide emission by changing Nitrogen application rate. Using a dynamic programming approach, we found that changing corn price or fertilizer price have effects on both farm profit and Nitrogen application rate. Ho...

Effects of nitrogen application rate, nitrogen synergist and biochar on nitrous oxide emissions from vegetable field in south China

Globally, vegetable fields are the primary source of greenhouse gas emissions. A closed-chamber method together with gas chromatography was used to measure the fluxes of nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions in typical vegetable fields planted with four vegetables sequentially over time in the same field: endive, lettuce, cabbage and sweet corn. Results showed that N2O fluxes occurred in pulses with th...

Response of nitric and nitrous oxide fluxes to N fertilizer application in greenhouse vegetable cropping systems in southeast China

It is of great concern worldwide that active nitrogenous gases in the global nitrogen cycle contribute to regional and global-scale environmental issues. Nitrous oxide (N2O) and nitric oxide (NO) are generally interrelated in soil nitrogen biogeochemical cycles, while few studies have simultaneously examined these two gases emission from typical croplands. Field experiments were conducted to me...

A review of nitrous oxide mitigation by farm nitrogen management in temperate grassland-based agriculture.

Nitrous oxide (N2O) emission from grassland-based agriculture is an important source of atmospheric N2O. It is hence crucial to explore various solutions including farm nitrogen (N) management to mitigate N2O emissions without sacrificing farm profitability and food supply. This paper reviews major N management practices to lower N2O emission from grassland-based agriculture. Restricted grazing...
